The club fair was a success, many clubs got a good amount of sign ups. There were 46 clubs that showed up to and had a booth for their clubs. Out of the 46, these are some you should focus on: National Honors Society, Portland Parks and Recreation and Take Action McDaniel. Take Action McDaniel is a Social Justice and activism club. Sophmore Daisy Le’Engel is a member of the club.
“We do stuff to help raise awareness and or raise money for specific issues,” Le’Engel said.
Currently the first thing they’re going to do is a fundraiser for Irco which is an organization who supports immigrants through legal and counselling services. Take Action McDaniel meets Fridays at lunch in room 292. Now to move onto the National Honors Society.
National Honors Society is a club for students with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
“We help students apply for scholarships and fundraise for events like teacher appreciation week,” said NHS co-president Seren Curtis.
“Some things you should look forward to are our group volunteering on weekends.
“Currently we are planning a beach clean up together to clean up the area and have fun social time together.” co-president Finlee Seaton said.
They meet once a month on Thursdays and the first meeting of the year was Oct.16 at lunch. For more information reach out to the club president: [email protected].
Now last but not least,, Portland Parks and Recreations: Teen Force.
Portland Parks and Recreation: Teen Force is a club available at six of the Portland Parks and Recreation centers around Portland. There is a location down the street from McDaniel, the Montavilla Community Center. The program/club is for kids ages 10 to 20 and you fill out a form to get a free pass to the centers. Some activities that they offer at the community centers are open gyms where
“Many kids choose to play basketball, they have dungeons and dragons for those interested in it.” said Robert Donaldson, the Teen Services Supervisor.
The Montavilla Community Center is open from 7pm – 10pm others are open to around 9-9:30.
