Tréla, a Greek kitchen in NE Portland, sits right on the corner of Glisan Street and 60th. When you walk into their restaurant, you’ll instantly be met with calm lighting and hosts ready to seat you, always there to make you feel instantly welcome. They have a comfortable atmosphere with filling food for everyone to enjoy, with delicious items from food, drinks and dessert.
I tried Tréla for the first time over the summer with some family and have been one more time since. It’s a great Greek spot if you’re craving a classic gyro—a popular Greek street food featuring thinly sliced meat, wrapped in warm pita bread with fresh tomatoes, onions and tzatziki—or simply some good homemade pita bread with a side of three dips of your choice from five selections: Tzatziki, Hummus,Tyrokafteri, Melitzanosalata and Taramosalata.
My personal favorite of the dips is the tzatziki, a very cool, creamy and tangy sauce, and for a great entree, the gyro.
The menu is built on traditional Greek recipes passed down through generations, originating from the owner’s grandparents, and you can truly taste the authenticity through every dish. What impressed me the most was the commitment to using high-quality, fresh ingredients, and that really nothing feels rushed or not cared for and that really stands out to me. Each plate is flavorful, vibrant not just in taste, but they even make the food appear with color never bland and clearly prepared with care. You can tell by the way it is plated and the level of crispiness in the fresh vegetables, while still at a reasonable price for the cost of ingredients.
Prices for entrées range from $20 to $40, a little on the pricier side, but definitely worth it in my opinion considering all the dishes are very tasteful. While it may cost a bit more than your average restaurant, the quality and tradition behind every dish really make it well worth the price.
Each time I’ve been there, it feels welcoming from the presentation of the food to the warmth of interactions. The servers are always there to offer helpful recommendations, ensuring every meal is enjoyable. The restaurant overall never fails to make me feel relaxed, welcomed, and genuinely cared for, turning each dining experience into something special.
Their dinner hours are typically from 4 p.m.-10 p.m. with slightly later hours on Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Tréla is closed on Tuesdays.
