Student body presidents Huy Vo Qui and Clara Gordon welcome the McDaniel community to the debate. They are getting ready to introduce every candidate running for president.
Juniors Veda Gordon and Ava Wilken share why they are the best candidates for president. Veda Gordon said that she’s wanted to help others for a while and shares her feelings on being president. “I’ve always promised myself if I got the chance to be in a role like this, I’d strive to become a better leader and vouch for those who have not yet found their circle, and be that voice for others in similar positions,” Gordon said.
Candidates Stella Carnes and Eloise Havran respond to Chatterton and Schaffer’s rebuttal. Havran shares their plans for greater student involvement and more opportunities for events at every grade level. “For underclassmen, promoting outreach opportunities and upperclassmen fun events and more academic oriented things for SATs, AP, and that stuff,” Havran said.
Juniors August Schaffer and Tommy Chatterton explain why they both work well together. Chatterton explains how they, as a pair, can help support students and make McDaniel a better place. “As we entered our junior year, we began to realize we were both highly motivated and passionate about making McDaniel a better place,” Chatterton stated.
Candidates Ava Gentle and Imani Horn share their strengths and weaknesses for being presidents. Horn expresses that they both understand the struggles of balancing school, activities, and sports, and how they will help everyone stay engaged. “ We understand how hard it can be to stay motivated. That perspective matters because we are not guessing what students need, we are also living it,” Horn explained.
Vo Qui and Clara Gordon wrap up the debate with a “Peace out, McFamily.” The candidates cheer and clap as the debate comes to an end. Later on, at the final assembly on May 15, juniors Stella Carnes and Eloise Havran were announced as the new student body presidents for the upcoming 2026-27 school year!
