As an ad manager for the McDaniel Oracle, I found many ways to open my horizon to different perspectives I never found within myself. I primarily joined the class to step outside of my comfort zone. I found ways of becoming more open, outspoken, and overall somewhat out of my comfort zone. I found ways of using my creative writing for stories, open speaking, and checking in with teachers and students around the building, and in the end, noticed changes in my improvement in creativity. If I were to give any advice to incoming students who want to steer their way in becoming an ad manager for The Oracle is to learn how to open yourself to others and learn to become independent, while also working well in groups and with the peers around you.
Something I hope stays the same about this role is the various amounts of time that were given to it, and how independent I felt throughout the year. I felt I was able to show who I was not only as a student, but as a writer. I got many compliments for my writings, and it only made me feel more confident and inspired to continue and make more. The community built in the class continues to blossom throughout time as we develop ways to overcome obstacles together, but figure out solutions over time, bringing us closer together as a class.
To me, the best part of everything was getting closer with the people around me and being seen as a part of The Oracle. Being known as someone who is a part of such a big community brings joy to everyone.
I think anyone who is interested in the role of an ad manager is in for a fun, exciting, non-stressful, and educational experience, overall, involving themselves in a welcoming environment.
