Students had a lot to look forward to surrounding the winter formal. The theme of the dance was “Snow Ball.” Winter Formal took place on Jan. 10 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. The sophomore-junior leadership class was in charge of planning it and they had lots of ideas and hope to execute them. They worked hard and got fully through the process at a good pace.
Junior leadership student Eloise Havran is on the decoration committee and spoke about the decoration process.
“The planning was pretty good. I helped plan the winter formal last year which I think helped the process go smoothly,” Havran said.
She described the decoration vision as “woodsy, classic dance, and sparkles.” To execute this vision, Havran spoke about lots of tree decorations, streamers, and wood designs.
“We made a big list with all our ideas, then narrowed that down to what we liked and decided what we could DIY and what we would have to buy.” Havran said.
The most complicated part of planning was making sure everyone knew what they wanted and that everyone’s vision was the same.
Junior leadership student Marlowe Graham is on the assembly committee and expressed that the planning process was a slow start but got into a rhythm throughout the rest of the process.
“It starts to get stressful near the end of planning and while executing the plans but it’s fun to be creative,” Graham said, “The most complicated part about planning was thinking of names for the grade posters to use during the assembly.”
The grade posters are made to show which sections grades will sit in during assembly. They’re usually on-theme, fun words that can go with the grade name, for example: “Jingle juniors.”
Junior leadership student Roxy Meyers is on the ticket sale committee and on designing the tickets for winter formal.
“Planning started out a bit hectic but after figuring out the designs, it became fun.” Meyers said.
Meyers said the most complicated part about planning was figuring out sizing for tickets and posters. The vision for the tickets was described as a “light blue, aurora, detailed snowflakes, icicles, frozen vibe.”
The tickets were posted on the McDaniel Leadership Instagram page and showed leadership and non-leadership students holding the ticket.
The sophomore-junior leadership class have worked very hard on coming up with things to do with the dance and making decorations to make the experience fun for everyone. 309 tickets were sold in total in the commons.
