The boys varsity basketball team is ready to bounce back from their previous season, going for growth and wins. Last season they were 4-20, and as of Dec. 20 they are 2-5 this season.
Head coach Arron Boone stated that his hopes for this season are to continue to build on the things they’re already teaching and having the team pick up on it.
This off-season was full of grind and grit on and off the court. With great attendance and a huge turnout at tryouts, the boys team had tough decisions to make on who to have on the team.
“The biggest thing we saw this off-season was commitment,” Boone said.
You can see this team is committed, each game they come out excited and ready to play. The layup lines before the games show this team’s bond in the way they hype each other up, give handshakes and throw up lobs.
“A lot of those guys that were working hard were sophomores, so it’s a continued growth,” Boone said.
This basketball program is full of sophomores on the JV squad. On varsity, three sophomores made the cut, including last season’s standout freshman Enzo Arias. The players have also recognized their hard work. Off-season workouts have been going on since the fall.
Senior Weiming Zhu is one of three captains alongside juniors Grant Fox and Cam Davis. This varsity team is full of upperclassmen, so youth development is big for this team.
“Our team has been working hard this off-season, and getting prepared for this season,” captain Wei

ming said.
Boone’s goal is to “continue to build and try to stack wins.”
With new additions to the team and an impressive second half from the Mountain Lions against David Douglas, the team is looking solid to get some wins this season.
One new addition to the team is junior Judah Ostrand.
“I think we have a great team, and I think we have a good work ethic,” junior Judah Ostrand said. “We just need to put it all together and start playing as a team.”
Some players to look out for according to Boone is a few guys, I would say Zhu’s one of them. Another one is Trey;. Enzo when we get him back.”
Competitive,” “relentless,” and “funny” were used by Boone, Ostrand and Zhu, respectively, to describe the team.
Ostrand had some suggestions for when to show up for the team.
“All home games,” Ostrand said.
