One of the cozy shows that’s redefined TV, Gilmore Girls has always been a fall staple in my yearly rotation, for its predictive and cozy storylines, and comforting characters. When the colors start to change and the leaves start to fall, I know it’s time to grab a cup of coffee and cozy in.
The show follows a mother-daughter duo, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, navigating the mundane challenges of life, but it’s much more than that. Set in the cozy fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, there’s always something going on. It’s a town full of events, bubbly characters, and a never-ending plethora of gossip and chaos. Another one of the show’s main plotlines is Lorelai’s parents and their multigenerational drama, which adds an assortment of characters and storylines, especially with the central plotline of the Friday night dinners.
Before I get into how you can celebrate the anniversary, here’s a quick recap of the plot, so minor spoilers ahead! The pilot episode starts out with daughter Rory Gilmore getting accepted into a prestigious private school. Still, with the high tuition demands, it forces mom Lorelai Gilmore to ask her parents, with whom she has an estranged relationship with, for money to pay for Rory’s tuition. They agree to loan her the money in exchange for a weekly Friday night dinner, essentially setting up that major plotline of Lorelai’s parents being more involved in Rory’s and her life. The pilot also sets us up with Rory’s first love interest, Dean, as well as introduces us to Rory and Lorelai’s fast-talking relationship.
Now that we’ve established that, here’s how you can celebrate. On Aug. 25, Ink on Paper Studios announced a Gilmore Girls documentary in the works titled “ Drink Coffee, Talk Fast.” In honor of the 25th anniversary, in addition to that, Hallmark put on a special Gilmore Girls marathon on Oct. 5, the official anniversary date. Hallmark also included ongoing weekday episodes as well as merchandise like a Stars Hollow map, a blanket, and a Luke’s Diner spatula, available for purchase at Hallmark stores.
Even though Oct.5 has passed, you can still celebrate and host your own marathon. Below, I’ve included some fan favorites to include in your own watch party.
