The cheer team is gearing up for an eventful year filled with new goals, hopes, and dreams for this season.
Head coach Sharlivia Slaughter describes this year as a new beginning. “With so many new faces added to the team, my hope is that this year is a rebuilding year. I want to inspire people to want to cheer, enjoy football season, and have fun.”
Junior Annika Hammersborg said that friendships are a big part of the team. She hopes to carry the friendships she made last year into this season, while also strengthening the team’s bond.
She states, “As a team, I’m hoping that we get to spend a lot of time together outside of practices and games.”
The cheer team’s team bonding is a big part of that. From off-season practices to grabbing food and hosting game nights, the cheer team ensures that they stay connected both on and off the field.
Many teammates said that creating friendships was one of their goals for this season.
Junior Ayla Singster also expressed that her goal is to get closer to the team. In addition to team bonding, the cheer team spent its off-season practicing and performing at local opportunities during the summer, like the Jade International Night Market, and prepping for homecoming.
“Really looking forward to homecoming, it’s a really big thing!” Slaughter says.
The team is also looking forward to other games and events. Slaughter says that she’s looking forward to a big competition at Sherwood in November. The team has recently established its own cheer category, Stomp-N-Shake, which allows it to compete at the competitive level and face off against other PPS schools, such as Jefferson and Benson.
Besides competitions, you can catch them performing at different local events, volleyball games, basketball games, and pep assemblies. Make sure to show up and show out at all Stomp-N-Shake events!
