The boy’s varsity soccer team had their final game of the season on Oct. 24, and it was an exhilarating send off for some of our seniors.
The Senior Night festivities before the game were also an emotional moment for the seniors and their families. Many folks showed up to watch seniors Manny Davila, Policarp Tambe, Eli White, Lucas Johnson, Brian Castillo, Miguel Torres Anzurez, Oliver Sage, Dean Lillard and Jackson Mailey play their last game as high school soccer players.
The team played Roosevelt High School, who was 13th in the state standings, while the Mountain Lions were seeded 40th.
Some players pinned this as a tough game for our team. However, our boys were able to come up with a 2-2 tie to end the season against Roosevelt, including an amazing highlight-reel-worthy goal by White.
White scored both goals and said that this game was his favorite memory of his entire high school soccer career. White started playing his junior year and has been a leader since his first practice with the team.
White said that some advice for underclassmen is to “just have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously.”
Dean Lillard joined the team in his sophomore year and started playing on JV. When asked about advice for underclassmen, he shared that humility and dedication were most important.
“I didn’t ask for a lot of minutes,” he said, “but I showed up a lot in practice and got minutes in this game.”
He claims his favorite memory in his whole high school soccer career was the same as White, this 2-2 tie on Senior Night.
Tavener Russ is another senior on this year’s squad.
“Junior year we had an outstanding season, and I made second team all PIL,” Russ said.
