Javi’s Breakfast Cafe, located six minutes away from our school, is a close, convenient, and reliable breakfast spot to catch up with a friend or to eat a filling meal on a Sunday morning. Located off of Sandy close to Pizzeria Otto, the building has a distinguishable rounded top and is painted green. It was fairly busy as I walked in around 11:00 am on a Sunday, but my friend and I were seated immediately. The customer service was accommodating when we requested to sit outside. There was ambient music playing in the background with songs from The Stokes and Carole King. It created an atmosphere that felt accepting and vivid.
Our orders were received within ten minutes, which is relatively fast considering it was a sit-down joint. When I received the churro waffles, I was shocked by the stunning garnish and appealing presentation with powdered sugar and cinnamon. However, I was skeptical if it might make me sick to my stomach because of the overbearing sweetness. As I took my first bite, I was proven wrong. The churro waffles were light and airy, nothing too overpowering compared to the look. It had a perfect amount of cinnamon, and with my choice of eggs (scrambled) and meat (sausage), it canceled out my overly sweet assumptions. My friend ate the ham benedict ($18) and was pleased with the display and the taste, considering the cost.
We both agreed that Javi’s on Sandy is worth every cent, from the accessibility to the small business aspect and from the customer service to the great food. It is a must-have breakfast joint for students and families from McDaniel.
