The newest movie in The Nun series came out on Sept. 8, and I have to say, The Nun II is much more entertaining than its predecessor.
The Nun series is a prequel to another horror series, The Conjuring.
Throughout the movie there’s scenes where characters venture into the dark or turn around to see something and then see nothing at all; it’s played very scary and has a nice suspenseful feeling. For example, there’s a scene when, in a school, one student sees a goat behind a window. When they turn away and then turn back to see it again, it’s gone. It gave a suspenseful feeling, one that got the listener blank stares like, “Wow.” A different one is the pamphlet scene. The pamphlets start to form Valak, and it just got scary seeing that demon.
The quality of the movie is good. How Valak looked in the movie was very fitting to his character: a dark demon that is made like a nun. It was what made it eerie. The non-human characters are put together and don’t look fake or odd. Especially the goat, who’s a cutie pie. The makeup for the characters makes them look very real and in a way realistic. It looks human but has a goat head and hooves.
Actor Storm Reid played an amazing role in Nun 2. Though her character made me stress out with some of her choices, it was what made the movie good. The choice to come with Irene, the other nun, was interesting. She just wanted to see a miracle and took it upon her hands to make it happen. The change in the movie because of her is what made the movie fall into place and go together.
Compared to the first Nun, some people online that have watched The Nun II say it’s much better than the first. It’s more scary with more jumpscares in the second movie. The plot goes into France, seeing a priest and a school place. There is much more in the plot than the first movie too. I have to say, The Nun II is much more entertaining than the first one; the characters actually fight the demon, rather than just sprinkling some holy water in a crack. Though it’s very long, it all falls together and ends very neatly, and the movie is overall pretty good.
Of course, it’s a much scarier movie than the newest Insidious movie. The Nun has lots of suspense and cool jumpscares and shows the demon that was in the first Nun and the Conjuring series. Though it’s about a two-hour long movie, it’s worth watching, especially with friends.
